František Janák´s Foreign Journey to Turkey During Holidays 2011
Acad. Painter František Janák, the actual SUPŠS Kamenický Šenov deputy headmaster, was – besides to the U.S.A. – invited for fourteen days also to the studio Glass Furnace in Turkey to teach Turkish students making moulds for glass melting. František Janák was teaching there together with Rob Stern, an American glassmaker, assisted in the hot shop by Daniela Prokešová, a Czech glassmaker from the Ajeto Company. In weekend, František Janák took the chance to visit Sultanahmet, the historical centre of Instanbul. He visited Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, a medieval cistern, the Archeological Museum, the Great and Egyptian bazaar, the medieval Galatian Tower and the Taksim district. A part of the stint was also visiting the studio of a famous Turkish sculptor Mehmet Aksoy.

Glass Furnace is an international glass centre, situated in the north of Instanbul near the Black Sea coast. The centre was founded by Mr. Yilmaz Yalcinkaya. The centre includes several studios and workshops, offices, a canteen, showrooms, resting places, accommodations for students, teachers and guests as well as other background including an open air swimming pool. It has also its own artifacts manufacture for sale in its own gallery. To the glass centre, glassmakers and artists from the whole world are invited to show their skills and to teach students from Turkey and abroad in studios and workshops. From the Czech Republik, there were teaching e.g. Petr Novotný, Jiří Šuhájek and Vladimír Klein.
Also this stint of František Janák helped in presentation of Czech glassmaking skills, history and traditions of Czech glass manufacture as well as of Czech professional glass education, incomparable with the other world. František Janák showed power point presentations of both his works and SUPŠS Kamenický Šenov as well as of Czech glassmakers ones in the Glass Furnace. Also here, several participants of the František Janák´s workshop and some Glass Furnace employees showed their interest in studies at the SUPŠS Kamenický Šenov.
