A Visit of a Choir from the Secondary Art and Craft School, Riga, Latvia

On Apr. 30, 2011 the town of Kamenický Šenov and our glass school were briefly visited by a choir, set up of a group of students and teachers from the Secondary Art and Craft School Riga, Latvia. This art school was founded in 1989. It has got four departments – Environmental Design, Textile and Leather Products, Wood and Metal as well as Media. The group was headed by Mrs. Maija Vanaga, responsible for international relations of the school. Mrs. Maija Vanaga together with the glass school deputy headmaster Mr. František Janák and the manager of the cultural department of the Kamenický Šenov municipality Mrs. Kateřina Ditterová also organized the visit.

The group of Latvian friends accompanied by František Janák visited the collections of the Glass Museum and the exhibition of František Janák both on the occasion of his sixtieth and 45 years of his activities in glass. It was followed by visiting the glass school. In the afternoon, the choir from Riga participated in an amusing event at the sportground in Kamenický Šenov, where together with the Česká Lípa Choir sang in a short concert. The Riga choir sang also in the Sunday morning mess in the Kamenický Šenov church. The visit of our friends from Riga should be the beginning of further collaboration and students´ exchange between the schools.
